Each month Krystal Burt finds out what makes our Staff special, this month it's one of our Practice Nurses, Amy.

What made you decide to work as a nurse?

There were many instances that people close to me, like my sister, grandmother and some of my close friends, were unwell or were in a situation where they needed medical help and I was unable to help them. I wanted to understand more about health and illnesses so that I was more informed to help those closest to me. I like being a practice nurse because we aim to prevent illness or help manage ongoing problems and stop them escalating.

Where did you grow up, and how is it different to Perth (related to health care)?

I grew up in the UK where we have the NHS, which aims to give UK resident free health care, funded from tax and national insurance. It is great, however it’s under a lot of pressure due to the size of the population and not enough services available. It makes you appreciate living in Perth with access to good health care when it is needed, not 6 months later!

How long have you been at CCMC?

I have been at CCMC for almost 2 years now and hopefully many more to come :)

Best part of your job?

Getting to know the patients and knowing that you’ve made a difference in their day one way or another.

Worst part of your job?

Paperwork

If you could work as a nurse anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would love to do rural community nursing anywhere in Australia. Maybe one day I will, when I have enough experience.

Favourite quote?

Better to regret the things you do than to regret not doing them

If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?
