DERMAL FILLERS
As we age the supporting structures of the face change; with a loss of subcutaneous fat, bone re-absorption and reduced production of collagen and elastin. These changes result in visible changes such as laxity of the skin, formation of wrinkles and folds, loss of the appearance of cheekbones and changes in the skins texture. Combined with external factors such as sun exposure, smoking and poor diet these changes can become even more pronounced.
Dermal fillers can address these concerns by replacing lost volume and adding hydration and support to the skin. In addition to their anti-aging benefits dermal fillers can be used to beautify and enhance features in a natural and subtle way.
Dermal filler injections are used for facial contouring, volume restoration, filling wrinkles and folds and for lip enhancement and rejuvenation.
Dr Kate Jameson is trained and skilled in the injection of dermal fillers. The dermal fillers used at Central City Medical Centre contain Hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance within the skin and is what gives the skin its hydration. These dermal fillers are non-allergenic and safe to use with a long history of use in cosmetic medicine.
Dermal fillers can be used for a number of indications. Common areas which are treated include:
Lip enhancement
Reduction of fine lines (or smokers lines) around the mouth
Nasolabial folds and smile lines
Cheek enhancement and contouring
Marionette lines
Pre-jowl sulcus
Oral commissures
Jawline shaping
Tear troughs
Dr Kate Jameson offers a conservative and natural approach to dermal fillers and will aim to improve facial harmony, symmetry and natural beauty.
What does the treatment involve?
Dr Kate Jameson will provide a full consultation prior to any aesthetic treatment. Consultation will involve assessment of you concerns, a facial analysis and review of your medical history. A tailored treatment plan will be devised and other procedures such as wrinkle relaxers may also be discussed.
The treatment is very safe and simple with little or no down time. A strong numbing cream will be applied or a block of the supplying nerve will be performed to reduce any discomfort during the procedure. All of the dermal fillers used by Dr Kate Jameson contain lignocaine which is a local anaesthetic.
Dermal filler treatment involves the injection of the gel like Hyaluronic acid into certain areas of the skin at different depths depending on the indication. The procedure will take approximately 30 minutes or longer if wrinkle relaxers are also performed. This is to ensure an aesthetically pleasing result and allow adequate time for an accurate and comfortable procedure.
The effect of dermal fillers is noted immediately and you can return to your normal activities afterwards. There may be some swelling in the first few days and the end result is evidence by 2 weeks.
Are there any side effects?
Following dermal filler treatment there is very little down time. Dr Kate Jameson will provide you will full after care instructions however general advice is to avoid strenuous exercise or lying face down for the first 24 hours.
The application of ice or a cool compress is advised to reduce any swelling, discomfort and bruising. Any irregularity or lumpiness can be gently massaged.
Rare complications include allergic reactions, the formation of granulomas, bacterial infections, reactivation of cold sores or damage to vascular structures. Dr Kate Jameson is trained in treating these potential complications.
Dermal fillers can not be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or who have taken a course of Roaccutane in the last 3 months.
How long does the treatment last?
Dermal fillers can last up to 24 months in some cases however the longevity depends on the type of dermal filler used and the area that is treated. For example a dense and heavier filler used for cheek volume restoration and contouring can last between 12-24 months whereas lip fillers last approximately 6 months. Dr Kate Jameson will discuss the longevity and need for repeat treatments in depth with every patient.
How much do dermal fillers cost?
The price for dermal fillers varies between products and depends on the thickness of the filler, volume required and the area it is treating. Dermal fillers are priced per 1ml and range from $500/ml to $750/ml with discounts offered for multiple syringes of filler.
